Abner named new Clay County Coroner

County Judge-Executive Tommy Harmon has appointed Jason Abner as the coroner following the recent resignation of Trent Baker.

Abner, of Manchester, is a licensed funeral director and embalmer.

Abner took the oath of office Tuesday at the county judge executive’s office.

He says he’s excited for this new venture.

“I am truly honored to have the privilege of serving the people of Clay County in this capacity. I want to thank Judge Tommy Harmon and the fiscal court for the confidence they have placed in me to fulfill the role of this office,” Abner said.  “I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to my deputy corner Billy Aaron Smith for his hard work in this office. This is a duty that I don’t take lightly and I’m going to work tirelessly for the people of our county in their time of need.”
