The election of chairman and vice-chairman highlighted the Clay County Board of Education meeting Monday night.
Board member Leewood Cornett motioned to re-appoint Mark Hoskins to his seventh term as board chairman. Robin Combs seconded the motion. All members voted in favor.
Hoskins was re-elected, as was vice-chairman Roy Glenn Allen for his seventh term in leadership also.
Superintendent William Sexton said the leadership of the board has been tremendous.
“Our leadership and our entire board have been tremendous in their efforts and support to better our school district,” Sexton said. “We have improved in all facets, from academics and facilities to finances, under this board. The work isn’t done as this board plans more great things.”
Board Chairman Mark Hoskins thanked the board members for their support as Roy Glenn Allen and Robin Combs entered their fourth terms.
“I appreciate the board members' confidence in me to help guide our vision for improving the future of our students and staff,” he said. “We’ve come a long way, and the future looks very bright for the Clay County District. This board actively seeks ways to improve, and this dynamic is why we’ve had so much success.”
In other news from the board meeting, Cloyd & Associates gave the board an exceptional audit review and praised Financial Manager Kristi Curry and her staff for their work. The board is audited each year by Cloyd and Associates.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
