MANCHESTER — The Clay County High School track and field team turned in a strong showing over the weekend, competing in the Tyson & Trinity Gay Invitational held Friday and Saturday at Lafayette High School.

Facing a competitive field, the Tigers produced multiple top-20 finishes across both running and field events, highlighted by a fourth-place performance in the boys 4x800-meter relay and a standout individual finish in the 400-meter dash.

Carson Collett led the way individually for Clay County, placing fourth in the boys 400-meter dash. Collett also contributed to relay success, joining Stephen Strickland, JD Lipps and Patrick Hensley on the 4x800-meter relay team that secured a fourth-place finish.

The Tigers’ 4x400-meter relay team — consisting of Keeton Lyttle, Strickland, Hensley and Collett — added another solid result, finishing seventh overall.

In field events, Trenton Maiden delivered a pair of strong performances, placing seventh in the discus and 13th in the shot put. Jayden Woods also competed in the high jump, finishing 14th.

On the track, Keeton Lyttle placed 17th in the 100-meter dash.

The Lady Tigers also posted several top-20 finishes. Madison Pendland led the way with a sixth-place finish in the high jump and added a 19th-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Carly Fultz competed in both throwing events, finishing eighth in the shot put and 15th in the discus.

In the 400-meter dash, Carlie Wolfe recorded a 19th-place finish to round out the Lady Tigers’ performances.

The meet, hosted at Lafayette High School, featured a large field of competitors and provided Clay County with an early-season opportunity to measure progress against strong regional competition.

The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to compete in the Leslie County All-Comers meet.
