There may not be a hotter team in the 13th region right now than the Clay County Tigers, winners of seven of their last eight games.
North Laurel is coming in as losers of three of their last four but don’t let that fool you. They’ve played arguably the toughest schedule in the region and their loses all came against teams ranked in the top 25.
The rivals have met twice this year with the Jaguars coming out on top 67-55 and 74-59.
Clay’s key to victory is containing the duo of Reece Davidson and Corey Cunagin. They hit for 23 and 20 in the first game and 15 and 18 respectively in the rematch.
“Both are fantastic players without a doubt,” Tiger head coach Michael Jones said.
Cooper Elza is another Jaguar weapon as he put 17 on the Tigers in the last game.
“He too is a tremendous player,” Jones said. “We will come out ready, our crowd will be loud and big so hopefully that gives us the energy we need to pull off this upset.”
Tip-off is set for Thursday night, 6:30 p.m. at Clay County High School.
