MANCHESTER — In a show of continued appreciation for the district’s workforce, the Clay County Board of Education voted Thursday night to award a $1,500 bonus to every full-time school employee.
Board Chairman Mark Hoskins said he is proud the district can once again provide a financial boost to the people who serve students every day.
“The good Lord above has blessed us with the finances to be able to do this for the last several years, and our employees deserve this,” Hoskins said.
Board member Leewood Cornett praised school staff for their dedication, noting the bonus is a small reflection of how valuable they are to the success of Clay County’s students.
Board member Anthony Lovett added that the district’s achievements—both in and out of the classroom—would not be possible without the commitment and hard work of teachers, bus drivers, custodians, instructional aides, and all other members of the school community.
Board member Roy Glenn Allen agreed, saying the board wants to support staff in every way they can because employees are the heart of the educational system.
Board member Robin Combs echoed those sentiments, saying the board is united in doing what’s best for employees and students alike.
Superintendent William Sexton thanked the board for their continued focus on supporting employees and maintaining a positive financial direction for the district.
“Our board has shown tremendous vision in making this happen,” Sexton said. “Their support allows us to invest in the people who make Clay County Schools a great place for our students.”
With Monday night’s approval, the bonuses are expected to be distributed in the coming weeks. The board emphasized that continued strong financial management remains a priority moving forward. Board members and part-time employees are not eligible for this bonus.
