Chapter 2 of 12

Posted

Hello, February. You came in like a lion, I must say—cold and snow on top of the existing ice that was already sticking around like a hair in a biscuit. I’m over it. But I don’t intend on trying to control the weather; I’ll leave that to the Man upstairs.

February is cold—we already know that. But it’s also the month of love. If you don’t have a love, that’s okay too, because you can always love yourself, or a friend, or a neighbor. And I’m sure your dog or cat would take some extra loving as well.

February makes me think of flowers and flower shops. I think of chocolates and romantic movies. But it doesn’t have to be all that. It’s the perfect time to have coffee with a friend. It’s never a bad time to pay someone a compliment. Maybe baking cookies for a neighbor is your way of spreading some love.

Love—that’s the word. And we should actually show it all 12 months of the year.

Maybe you know someone you could send a pretty card in the mail. I love getting cards and handwritten notes. Joyce Davidson sends me the most beautiful cards and words of encouragement. It’s so special to me that people still do that.

Do you have a favorite flower? I love tulips and peonies.

Month two is also a good time to begin refreshing your home. I’ve been decluttering to get ready for spring painting. I have very little time with my grandbaby being so active, but when I get the chance, I want to paint and freshen things up.

Winter can be sad and dreary. With red and pink in the air for Valentine’s Day, I think it brings color into the dark season. My grandson will be turning two on Valentine’s Day. My friends Danielle Rominger and Ashley McNamara also have February birthdays. My parents’ wedding anniversary falls on Valentine’s Day as well.

It’s cold, but our mood doesn’t have to be. Buy yourself the good chocolates. My son always loved Dove chocolates—I need to get some.

How about setting new goals to love deeper and love yourself a little more? We get so busy loving others as moms that we forget about ourselves. If we neglect ourselves, we can’t be all that we need to be for others. I’m learning that.

I hope everyone has stayed safe and made it through this weather event without any severe issues. It’s truly a dangerous time.

Love you all, and stay sweet.

February-Short, but Sweet.
