LEXINGTON — Brayden Byrd and his mare, Another Shade Of Blue, turned in a strong showing at the 38th Annual Rocky Mountain Horse Association International Grand Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
The prestigious event was held Sept. 2-5 in the Kentucky Horse Park’s Covered Arena, bringing together Rocky Mountain Horses and riders from across the country to compete for championship honors.
Byrd competed with Another Shade Of Blue in the 12-17 Youth Juvenile Trained Country Trail Pleasure division.
The pair began their championship run by winning their preliminary class, earning the opportunity to advance to the 12-17 Youth Country Trail Pleasure Grand Championship class.
Competing against other top qualifiers, Byrd and Another Shade Of Blue finished fourth in the Grand Championship, capping an impressive week of competition.
The International Grand Championships are among the premier events for the Rocky Mountain Horse breed, with riders and horses competing throughout the week for an opportunity to earn the coveted title of Grand Champion.
For Byrd, simply reaching the championship class required a strong performance, but winning his preliminary class and then placing among the top finishers in the Grand Championship made the trip to Lexington even more memorable.
Byrd and Another Shade Of Blue returned home with a class victory, a fourth-place Grand Championship finish and an accomplishment to be proud of against competition from across the country.
