Bertha Page Hall Dye of Prestonsburg, KY, formerly of McDowell, KY, passed away on September 30, 2023. Bertha was born May 26, 1935 to Ervin & Caldonia Reynolds Page in Whitesburg, KY. She was a member of Pilgrims Rest Old Regular Baptist Church.
Bertha grew up in Marlow coal camp in Whitesburg. She frequently told stories of her life there and remained in close contact with her friends from those days. After the death of her first husband, John Ray Hall, Bertha moved her family to McDowell and married Bert Dye. Even though her father had made her quit high school when she was a sophomore, she earned her GED and went on to become a CNA. Her favorite work family was from Our Lady of the Way in Martin and she loved working there.
Bertha was quite a character. Anyone who played games with her was assured of may laughs, especially Rook. She wasn't above trying to give hints to her partner and, if you listened closely, you just might hear a bird-call if she had the Rook. Even though she loved to laugh and pull pranks on others, she definitely earned the nickname, Feisty.
Bertha was fierce over her kids. If she even suspected that someone had done them wrong, she came out fighting and would ask the questions later.
Bertha is survived by her daughters, Hazel Hall (Mark) Boatwright of Richmond, KY, Vicki Hall (John) Ward of Salyersville, KY, Patricia Hall (Bob) Schlick of Dunnellon, FL, and Betty Dye (Stan) Huff of Somerset, KY, her son, Billy (Pennie) Dye of Manchester, KY, her step daughters, Roberta Dye Cyrus of Louisa, KY, Joanie Dye (Willie) Barrowman of Versailles, KY and Patty Dye Morris of Louisville, KY, her step sons, Cleveland (Doris) Dye of McDowell, KY and Danny (Sharon) Dye of Logan, GA. Bertha is survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren, a host of step great grandchildren and one brother.
In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her first husband, John Ray Hall nde her second husband, Bert Dye, her sisters Reba Kuchinski, Dina Collins, Estalene Page, Margaret Caudill & Verna Jones, her brothers Wid Page, Ellis Page, Ed Page, Columbus Page, Wilburn Page (who she thought of like a son) and Charles Page, her great granddaughter, Camren Slone & great grandson Johnathan Huff.
