Gladys Lillian Parsell

Gladys Lillian Parsell passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children on January 7, 2025. Gladys was born on July 3, 1953 to Nancy and Sam Sizemore in Manchester, Ky. She was raised in Manchester alongside four sisters and two brothers. She was a graduate of Clay County High School.

 To know Gladdy was to love her. She loved to make people laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved going to the lake on the weekends with her family making memories, taking so many pictures, laughing, riding jet skis and wave runners, and getting a killer tan. She mastered the Farrah Fawcett feather hairdo in the 80’s, wore purple and aqua mascara like a champ, and loved listening to Journey, The Police, REO Speedwagon, and her country stars: George Strait, Alabama, Randy Travis, and Reba McEntire.

 Gladys met the love of her life, Scott Parsell, and they were married on July 20, 1989. She loved Scott more than anything in life. She loved jumping on the back of his motorcycle with him so they could hit the road. They went on many long distance trips and organized bike rides to various locations. In her earlier years, she loved going out with her and Scott’s friends on the weekends to go listen to music and dance. Her friends say that she was so much fun and whenever Gladys was there, “she was always finding something for them to get into.” They miss her terribly.

 Gladys was a mom to four kids: Kelly Dean, Lance Jacobs, David Parsell, and Rachelle Blackham. She loved taking her kids on trips so they could experience as much as possible. There were many cross country trips where we were all stuffed into a van with Scott at the wheel with his folded paper map and Gladys riding shotgun. She always had a camera in hand to collect all the memories. As we’ve been going through old pictures two things were apparent: she either had a big smile, or she was making a silly face with her tongue out. She was a ham.

 She had a small group of friends that would meet for coffee once a week and would rotate the house that would host. Those four women are her ride-or-die friends. She did back away as she became sick, however, she loved them tremendously. Thank you, Shauna, Mel, Julie, and Cindi, for being such a great group of friends. We love you all so much!

 Gladys is survived by her husband, Scott Parsell of Layton; her daughter, Kelly Dean (Matt) of Hooper, her son Lance Jacobs of Layton, her daughter Rachelle Blackham (Jeb) of Kaysville; her grandchildren Carson Prior, Nathan Dean, Breyden Jacobs, Savannah Day, Zachary Dean, Nixon Jacobs, Merik Blackham, and Haakon Blackham; Sisters: Nora Blevins, Sharon Smith, Willie Sizemore, and Sammy Sizemore; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins who she loved dearly.

 Gladys is preceded in death by her son, David Parsell; her parents Sam and Nancy Sizemore; her sisters LeeAnn Vance and Margie Collett.

 A special thank you to First Choice Hospice, especially, her nurse, Shyla, and her CNA, Jasmine. Thank you both for all the care and love you shown her in her last months.

 Graveside services will be held Friday January 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the graveside.
