Velna Irene (Nicholson) Gilbert

Velna Irene (Nicholson) Gilbert, daughter of the late John and Thenia (Owens) Nicholson, was born on May 23, 1926, Clay County, Kentucky. She was united in marriage to Ewell Vernon Gilbert who proceeded her in death. She is survived by her children Sandra Cornett and husband John, and Tracy Mills and husband Lawrence, all of London, Kentucky, and son-in-law Mike Brooks of Cynthiana, Kentucky; and by her brother Stanley Nicholson of London, Kentucky. She was also blessed with five grandchildren; Camille Clemons and Jessica Cornett, both of Lexington, Kentucky, Blake Mills of Manchester, Kentucky, Tyler Mills of Lexington, Kentucky, and Aaron Brooks of Cynthiana, Kentucky, and seven great-grandchildren; Brandon Mills of Manchester, Kentucky, Audrey Neff of Georgetown, Kentucky, and McKenna Clemons, Olivia Clemons, Bailee Mills, Avery Mills, and Piper Mills, all of Lexington, Kentucky. She was a Deputy Federal Court Clerk and a member of Fariston Christian Church. Besides her parents and spouse, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly Brooks, and by her siblings Jess Nicholson, Don Nicholson, Joyce Nicholson, Monty Nicholson, and Michael Nicholson. Velna Irene (Nicholson) Gilbert departed this life on Thursday, July 4, 2024 being 98 years, 1 month, and 12 days of age.

Funeral Services for Velna Irene (Nicholson) Gilbert were conducted Saturday, July 6, 2024, in London Funeral Home Chapel with Barry Farris officiating. Burial followed at A.R. Dyche Memorial Park. The family of Velna Irene (Nicholson) Gilbert will receive friends at London Funeral Home from 1:00pm until the time of service.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Blake Mills, Tyler Mills, Aaron Brooks, Brandon Mills, Camille Clemons, and Jessica Cornett.
