COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina woman was arrested over the weekend after a disruptive incident at a local grocery store that led to multiple criminal charges.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, 35-year-old Cardesha Gilmore was taken into custody Sunday following an alleged shoplifting attempt at a Publix store on Hardscrabble Road.

Investigators said Gilmore was caught by store employees attempting to steal four packages of steaks. After being confronted, authorities allege she became irate and urinated on the floor inside the store.

Deputies responding to the call reported that Gilmore fled the scene and ran into traffic on a nearby roadway before eventually complying with commands. Court documents state that she attempted to flee again after being placed in a patrol car and had to be restrained. During the arrest, deputies allege Gilmore tried to kick one officer in the face.

The sheriff’s department said Gilmore did not have identification at the time of her arrest. Deputies reported finding only an empty bottle of oxycodone prescribed to another individual in her possession.

Gilmore was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and charged with indecent exposure, shoplifting, and disorderly conduct. She was being held on a bond totaling nearly $21,000.
