Teen Girl Killed in Dickson; Ex-Boyfriend Charged with Murder

DICKSON, Tenn. — Tennessee authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old girl, and her former boyfriend has been charged with her murder.

According to the Dickson Police Department, Taylor ShyAnn Ratterree was shot and killed Tuesday night while attempting to escape from her ex-boyfriend, identified as 18-year-old Hunter Jackson.

Police said Jackson picked Ratterree up from work around 8 p.m. As they approached a traffic light on Henslee Drive, Ratterree attempted to jump from the vehicle. Authorities allege Jackson then shot her.

Officers located Ratterree at the scene and transported her to Skyline Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Friends and family described Ratterree as a bright, kind-hearted teen with big plans for the future. She was preparing to start college next year and had a creative passion for crocheting, often making small handmade items to sell at work.

“She has a beautiful personality,” said Hayla Skelton, a co-worker and close friend. “She’s always happy and never seems to have a dull moment.”

Skelton said she spoke with Ratterree shortly before she left work that evening — a conversation that would become their last.

Later that night, Skelton noticed police activity along Henslee Drive and learned what had happened the following day.

“It was very sad,” Skelton said. “You just have to sit and think that someone you know is no longer here with us.”

Skelton recalled one of Ratterree’s favorite creations — a small crocheted bumblebee — which she said reflected the teen’s sweet and creative spirit.

Jackson was arrested by Dickson police and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held on a $3 million bond.

The killing has shaken the Dickson community, where residents said homicides are rare. Police confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.
