LONDON, Ky. — A Laurel County man is behind bars after deputies say he opened fire inside a home south of London on Wednesday morning, leaving three people injured.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root reported that deputies and detectives responded around 9:14 a.m. to a residence off Guy Greene Road after 911 dispatchers received a call that a man had shot his mother and fled on foot. The suspect, however, returned shortly after.
When deputies arrived, they found the man standing on the front porch near the pistol allegedly used in the shooting. Deputy Bobby Roberts took him into custody without further incident. Inside the home, investigators found the suspect’s mother suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Two men — one a relative and the other a friend — had also been badly injured after being struck in the head with the pistol.
All three victims were taken by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to St. Joseph Hospital in London. The woman was later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she was reported unresponsive.
Authorities said a 4-year-old child was asleep in a back bedroom during the gunfire. Social Services was called to assist with the case. Detectives recovered the firearm at the scene.
Following the investigation, deputies arrested Beve Dewayne Begley, 39, of Guy Greene Road, London, charging him with attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for discharging a firearm. Begley was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
