The Lady Tigers will be looking for their first 49th district crown since 2017 Friday night when they meet the region’s top-rated team, the North Laurel Lady Jaguars.
The two teams have met twice this season with North coming out on top 74-55 and 77-55. To complicate matters, Clay’s leading scorer Maci White (14 ppg.) may miss the game due to a hamstring injury.
Head coach Gemma Parks knows her team has a tall task ahead of them, especially when it comes to containing 13thregion Player of the Year Mariella Claybrook. Claybrook averages 19 ppg. with 11 rebounds.
“Mariella is worthy of every honor she receives,” Parks said. “She’s an outstanding player and containing her is our main goal.”
North Laurel also features the three-point presence of Laylee Phillips averaging 12 ppg.
“They’ve got a great inside-outside combination,” Parks said.
The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off at Clay County High School.
