Autocross and Shamrock Mountain Hillclimb Set for October 11–12 in Manchester

Posted

MANCHESTER, Ky. — Clay County is set to make motorsports history this fall with two adrenaline-filled events taking place over one exciting weekend. On Saturday, October 11, Manchester will host a highway Autocross, followed by the Shamrock Mountain Hillclimb on Saturday and Sunday, October 11–12, bringing racers and fans from across the region to downtown Manchester and the scenic hills of Clay County.

Historic Highway Autocross – Saturday, October 11

From 12 to 5 p.m., a section of U.S. 421 will be legally shut down to allow drivers to compete in an autocross course right on the highway—a truly unique opportunity in Kentucky. Drivers ages 16 and up (with a parent’s waiver) can pre-register to compete and practice the skill of precision driving. The paddock for drivers will be located at the Eastern Kentucky University Manchester Campus.

Spectators are encouraged to attend, bring coolers, chairs, and snacks, and witness history being made. Pre-registration is required for drivers at www.motorsportreg.com/events. For updates, visit Backroads of Appalachia on Facebook.

Shamrock Mountain Hillclimb – Saturday and Sunday, October 11–12

The motorsports excitement continues with the Historic Inaugural Shamrock Mountain Hillclimb, part of the Appalachian Hillclimb Series. This thrilling race up one of Kentucky’s most picturesque roads will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Spectators can park along Shamrock Road and in the Clay County Health Department parking lot, then follow marked walking paths to reach designated viewing areas. Fans are welcome to bring chairs, coolers, and snacks to enjoy the race in comfort.

Saturday Night Car Show – October 11

The motorsports celebration doesn’t end with the checkered flag. On Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m., Main Street Manchester will transform into a car enthusiast’s dream. Race cars will be on display, drivers will be available for meet-and-greets, and local car lovers can participate in a car show hosted by Clay County Cruisers in partnership with SCCA. This free community event is the perfect way to close out Saturday’s action.
