Melvin Jones, 63, passed away on May 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 13, 1962, Melvin was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought strength, guidance, and unwavering support to all who knew him.

Melvin was the strongest, most selfless, hardest-working man you could ever meet. As a skilled and dedicated heavy equipment operator, he was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to fix just about anything. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family, always leading by example through resilience and determination.

Above all, Melvin was a family man. He was a loving father to Melondy Jones (Wayne) of Manchester and Karen Wagers (Scott) of London. He is also survived by his longtime companion, April Hobbs; her daughter, Miranda Sizemore; and her grandchildren, Victor Sizemore, Amira Sizemore, and Alaina Hobbs, all of whom he cared for deeply.

He is also survived by his brothers Oscar Jones, Orville Jones, Orie Jones, and Louie Jones; his sisters Geneva Jones, Mattie Jones, and Bonnie Fultz; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Melvin’s greatest joy in life was his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pie.” That name meant love, comfort, and safety. He shared a special bond with Skyler Jones and Dominik Wagers, among others, and took immense pride in watching them grow. He never missed a chance to say, “I’m so proud of you,” and those words will stay with his family forever.

He was known for his calm spirit, his ability to weather any storm, and his willingness to listen and offer advice. To many, he was the rock of the family, the one everyone could count on no matter what.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Dovie Jones. His brothers Marvin Jones, Carl Jones, Omer Jones Jr. His sister Edna Jones. His passing leaves a tremendous void, especially for his children.

Though his body grew tired, his strength, love, and legacy remain. Those who knew him find comfort in imagining him continuing his work, building something beautiful beyond this life, just as he did here.

Funeral services will be held under the direction of Britton Funeral Home. Visitation will take place Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM, with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the funeral home to assist with Melvin’s funeral expenses.

Melvin will be remembered for his selflessness, his kindness, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished.
