MANCHESTER — An ongoing investigation involving Manchester Tourism has been referred to the Kentucky State Auditor’s Office, according to information obtained by The Manchester Enterprise.
The Kentucky State Police conducted a preliminary investigation before turning the matter over to the auditor’s office. In many cases, the auditor’s office reviews findings and may forward them to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, depending on the outcome. At this time, it is unclear what prompted the investigation or what it involves.
The situation has already led to leadership changes within the organization. Tourism Chairman Jamey Mills resigned from his position as chairman Tuesday but indicated he will remain on the board.
An emergency meeting had been scheduled for Tuesday night but was later canceled without explanation.
Tourism Executive Director Tim Parks said he was not initially notified of the planned meeting but later learned it was expected to involve his termination.
“Obviously, I cannot say a whole lot about the situation, but that was what I found out later,” Parks said. “I have a contract with them (tourism), if they want to buy me out they can. But I’m not quitting.”
Parks also declined to comment on the investigation.
The Manchester Tourism Commission is expected to hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 5, at 6 p.m. at Manchester City Hall.
It is important to note that an investigation does not imply wrongdoing, and no findings or charges have been announced at this time.
The Enterprise will continue to follow this developing story.
