Manchester Tourism Commission Begins Search for New Executive Director

Posted

MANCHESTER — Nearly a month after buying out the contract of former Executive Director Tim Parks, the Manchester Tourism Commission has officially begun its search for new leadership.

The commission recently posted a job opening seeking an Executive Director to oversee the organization's strategic planning, marketing, tourism development, operations, project coordination and event management. The position reports directly to the Manchester Tourism Commission Board and is intended to lead efforts to promote Manchester and Clay County as a growing tourism destination.

Parks' contract was bought out by the commission in June, leaving the organization without a permanent director while commissioners worked to determine the future direction of the agency.

According to the job announcement, the new executive director will be responsible for building partnerships with local governments, businesses, tourism organizations and attractions throughout southeastern Kentucky while promoting regional tourism initiatives that connect Manchester with neighboring destinations. The position also includes representing Manchester at tourism conferences and industry events across Kentucky.

The commission is seeking a candidate with experience in tourism, hospitality, destination marketing, leadership, budgeting and public relations. Applicants should also possess strong communication and organizational skills, marketing and content creation experience, and a passion for promoting southeastern Kentucky's culture, history and natural beauty.

In addition to overseeing the daily operations of the tourism office, the executive director will manage commission-owned properties, supervise staff and volunteers, coordinate events, develop marketing campaigns and pursue grant opportunities to support tourism infrastructure and growth.

Applicants must reside in the Manchester/Clay County area or be willing to relocate within a reasonable time after accepting the position. A valid driver's license, drug screening and background check are also required.

The Tourism Commission said salary will be commensurate with experience. Interested applicants must submit a cover letter, résumé and at least three references. Applications must be postmarked no later than July 31, 2026.
