LEESVILLE, La. — A Louisiana man will spend the next four decades behind bars and undergo both physical and chemical castration after pleading guilty to the attempted rape of a child under 13.
Thomas Allen McCartney, 37, of Leesville, entered the guilty plea Tuesday in Vernon Parish, according to the District Attorney’s Office. As part of his plea deal, McCartney accepted a 40-year prison sentence in addition to the castration requirements.
McCartney was arrested in 2023 after authorities said he was caught sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl. Prosecutors noted that he was already classified as a Tier 3 sex offender — the most serious category under Louisiana law — due to a history of sexual offenses against children.
Court records show McCartney was arrested in 2006 for felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, then again in 2010 on two counts of aggravated rape of a 12-year-old. In 2011, he was convicted of attempted aggravated rape.
Vernon Parish District Attorney Terry Lambright condemned McCartney’s crimes, saying the punishment was necessary to protect the community.
“This is a horrific crime that never should have happened,” Lambright said. “Thomas McCartney is a predator that needs to be locked away from others in our community.”
