A Laurel County man has entered a plea agreement in federal court, pleading guilty to drug possession and distribution charges on Feb. 11.
Scottie Shelton was arrested Aug. 12 following a search of his property that investigators say uncovered a large quantity of illegal drugs. According to an affidavit filed by Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent David Wilson, officers discovered approximately 6,000 pills consistent in appearance with oxycodone along with roughly 1,200 grams of methamphetamine.
Authorities executed the search after developing information related to suspected drug activity at the property.
Wilson reported that during the search, officers located a white metal structure on the premises and detected a strong odor of decay coming from inside. After Shelton consented to a further search, investigators discovered what was described in the affidavit as a cell-like room containing handcuffs, rope, and other restraints. The affidavit characterized the space as appearing to be a “torture chamber.”
No additional details about the purpose of the structure were immediately available in court records.
Shelton now awaits sentencing at a later date. Federal prosecutors have not yet announced a recommended sentence.
The case remains part of an ongoing investigation.
