Hotel, Restaurant Associations Form to Recommend Tourism Commission Appointees

Posted

MANCHESTER — Two newly formed hospitality organizations are seeking to play a more active role in the future of the Manchester Tourism Commission by recommending nominees whenever vacancies arise for their respective industry representatives.

Certified letters sent to Mayor Steve Collins and the Manchester City Council announce the formation of both the Manchester Hotel and Lodging Association and the Manchester Restaurant Association, organizations created to represent the interests of the city's lodging and restaurant industries.

According to the letters, Amy Janutolo has been elected president of the Manchester Hotel and Lodging Association, while LeeAnn Smith will serve as president of the Manchester Restaurant Association. The stated purpose of both organizations is to provide a unified voice for their respective industries while working collaboratively with the City of Manchester on tourism, hospitality and economic development initiatives.

Under the proposal outlined in the letters, the associations would not make appointments to the Tourism Commission. Instead, they would recommend qualified candidates whenever vacancies occur.

The Hotel Association proposes submitting three qualified nominees to the Mayor and City Council each time the hotel representative position becomes vacant. The Mayor and City Council would retain the authority to make the final appointment from those recommended candidates.

Similarly, the Restaurant Association proposes submitting four qualified nominees whenever the restaurant representative seat becomes vacant, with the Mayor and City Council making the final selection from that list.

According to the current Manchester Tourism Commission roster, Jamey Mills, who represents the city and serves as chairman, has a term that expires in September 2026. Missy Roberts, who represents the county, also expires in September 2026.  Vanda Rice, also a county representative and vice chairwoman, and Laura Ann Gregory Bray and Carmen Reid, both city representatives, have terms expiring in September 2027. City representatives Barbara Colter and Cheyenne Lyttle also serve through September 2028.

The certified letters were also copied to The Manchester Enterprise.
