Ham Hollow Man Charged After Sunday Night Crash, Foot Pursuit

Posted

A Ham Hollow man was arrested Sunday night following a motor vehicle crash and subsequent foot pursuit on Chop Bottom Road, according to a post-arrest complaint filed by Clay Deputy Wes Brumley.

Donovan K. Williams, 24, of Ham Hollow, was charged by Deputy Wes Brumley, with assistance from Deputies Austin North and Luther Thomas, following the incident, which occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities were responding to a reported motor vehicle crash when deputies arrived on the scene and observed Williams outside the vehicle at the top of a hill. According to the complaint, deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Williams and noted he was not wearing shoes. Deputies later located one shoe near where Williams was standing and another farther down the hill, where he had reportedly climbed.

After making contact with deputies, Williams allegedly began walking away from the scene and then fled on foot up the hillside. Deputies pursued Williams, and after a brief chase and the deployment of a Taser, he was taken into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, deputies reported finding a large quantity of empty beer cans inside the vehicle and detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. A passenger involved in the crash was transported to AdventHealth for treatment of minor injuries.

Williams was also taken to AdventHealth Manchester, where he submitted to a blood test.

Williams faces the following charges:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol (.08 or above), First Offense (Aggravated Circumstances)

  • License to Be in Possession

  • Wanton Endangerment, First Degree

  • Fleeing or Evading Police, Second Degree (On Foot)

  • Resisting Arrest

The case remains under investigation.
