Posted

IRVINE, Ky. – Clay County is gaining momentum as they notched two big wins over Bourbon County and Estill County in the Railroad Classic this past week. The Tigers (8-4) close out December strong and now will look ahead to a very tough stretch of in-region games. For now, let’s recap the Tigers weekend in Estill County at the Railroad Classic.

Clay County 62 Bourbon County 44 – Adon Grubb led the Tigers with a dominant 20-point 11 rebound game. Grubb’s junior campaign is off to a wonderful start as he averages 16ppg, leading a team that many believe can make a deep postseason run if everyone stays healthy.

Grubb didn’t do it alone, as senior big man Isaiah Bundy turned in a 12-point game, and Aiden “Baby Bear” Wagers added 11 points in the win as well to round out the double-digit scoring. Jacob Rogers poured in nine points on three-threes, while Maxton Gray added five, Jay Nicholson four, and Brody Hooker with one.

Dixie Heights 45 Clay County 44 – The Tigers lose in another one-point heartbreaker for the second time in just two weeks. Points were at a premium in this defensive battle as both teams simply went nose-to-nose for four quarters. The duo of Aiden Wagers and Adon Grubb led the Tigers with 12 points each.

Jacob Rogers added seven points, Isaiah Bundy with four, Brody Hooker four, Maxton Gray three, and Jay Nicholson with two points. Grubb led the team with nine rebounds.

Clay County 71 Estill County 34  - The Tigers secure their 8th win after a very strong performance in the win over tournament host, Estill County. A more in-depth story will be posted online for this game.
