MANCHESTER — The latest edition of Clay County Ancestral News is now available, offering readers a deep look into the county’s rich history, family heritage and notable stories from the past.
The Spring & Summer 2026 issue, published by the Clay County Historical Society, features a wide range of articles highlighting local history, genealogy and community contributions.
Among the featured pieces is a “Message from the President,” along with a patriotic column titled “Happy Birthday to the USA” by Beth Steury. The issue also includes historical reflections such as “Lard Tins” by Ralph Goins and “Notes and Records of Willie ‘Pop’ Rice,” submitted by Russell Gregory.
Local political history is explored through “Campaign Cards,” while Stephen Combs provides insight in “Judge and Mudge: A Piece of Manning History.” Readers will also find a contribution titled “The Long Fork of Hector Job.”
Additional highlights include donation acknowledgements, personal histories like “Pap Jarvis” by Connie Jarvis Sadik, and features such as “A Visit from the Burchell Daughters” and “Remembering Reubin Hill,” the latter written by Mark Hoskins.
The issue also spotlights regional culture with “Pleaz Mobley Folk Music Legend,” as well as a collection of historic photographs and various history notes. Sections recognizing new members, memorials, and recent acquisitions round out the publication.
In addition to the historical content, the Clay County Historical Society is inviting the community to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a “Picnic in the Alley” event scheduled for Friday, July 3, from noon until 2 p.m. beside the historical society. The free event will include food, music, prizes and activities celebrating local traditions.
Organizers say the latest issue continues the publication’s mission of preserving Clay County’s heritage while connecting generations through shared stories and memories.
The magazine is available through the Clay County Historical Society and its members.
