Charles E. "Edd" McWhorter departed this life on January 6, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his sister, Linda Holcomb (Glenn); and Ruth Ann Parker (Clinton), as well as a special niece, Carla Thompson (Chuck). He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews to mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Catherine McWhorter, and a sister, Evelyn Belt (Carl).
Edd was a retired educator who dedicated his life to the field that he loved. His passion was ignited as a student at Clay County Vocational School, where he discovered a lifelong fascination with cars and auto body repair. He never wanted to do anything else. That early spark led to a distinguished career teaching auto body repair and in various administrative roles throughout the Kentucky Tech System, as well as Laurel County Vocational Technical School. This later became Laurel Technical College. Edd retired as the first director of the newly formed Laurel Technical College under the KCTCS system. He earned two undergraduate degrees, a master's degree, and a Rank I, and credited his education for everything he accomplished in life.
Edd touched many lives throughout his career and never met a stranger. His love for cars was second only to his love for family, including his beloved fur baby, Millie, the little dog who adored him dearly. He delighted in large family gatherings and was always the heart of every occasion.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his life by donating to Somerset Community College, Laurel Campus. https://alumni.kctcs.edu/g/give-to-scc
