Each week, The Manchester Enterprise will feature stories from local car enthusiasts and the vehicles that mean the most to them. Behind every classic ride, hot rod, or custom build, there’s often a powerful personal story—and we want to help share them.
If you have a car or truck that holds special meaning, we’d love to hear about it. Text Mark Berry at 606-813-1541 or message him on Facebook to share your story and photos.
This week we kick off the series with Brenda Rose, of Tyner, Ky.
“This 1973 Chevy Nova was the last car bought by my Grandfather, General Jackson Strunk. Grandpa Strunk passed away in 1983 at the age of 88 years. The car is a six-cylinder, straight shift, with three on the tree. The only added option to the car was an AM Radio. The car has always been garage kept and is all original. The cost of the new car in 1973 was $2,180. Ironically, my Grandfather never had a driver’s license and never drove, even though he owned cars for many years. His daughter, my Aunt Velma Strunk, drove for him. My Aunt Velma passed away in 2011 at the age of 86. My siblings and I were her closest family members, and it was agreed that the close family members could submit sealed bids for the car. I was the highest bidder, so I have owned the car since 2011. My family and I have many wonderful memories of riding in this car, and I hope we continue building memories as we drive it today.” -Brenda Rose.
