HARLAN COUNTY — A 19-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning in an apparent electrocution accident along Highway 38 in the Holmes Mill community, according to a report from WTUK.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been confirmed by authorities, was described as a third-party Apex contractor from Manchester who was installing a fiber optic line for Harlan County Telecommunications (HCTV) at the time of the incident.
According to WTUK, the young man was working in a bucket truck when he came into contact with a power line. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies were dispatched to the area following the report of the accident. On scene were the Harlan County Sheriff’s Department, Harlan County EMS, Kentucky State Police, and the Cloverfork Fire Department. Kentucky Utilities crews also responded due to the involvement of a power line.
Initial reports indicated that a medical helicopter had been requested to airlift the individual; however, he succumbed to his injuries before transport could occur.
Traffic in the area was impacted for a period of time as emergency personnel worked the scene and utility crews addressed the hazardous conditions.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details pending notification of family members.
