Donnie Ray Marcum
Donnie Ray Marcum of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, a devoted family man, dedicated postal worker, and patriotic veteran, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the age of 71.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 20 years, Karen Hicks Marcum; one son, Randy Marcum; six siblings, Herman Marcum, Ricky Marcum & wife Martha Sue, Bobby Marcum & wife Glenda, Brenda Turner & husband Darrell, Shirley Bush & husband Freddy, all of Manchester, KY, and Roy Marcum of Bristol, TN; two grandchildren, Alexis Marcum Taylor & husband Brayden, Trinity Geneva Marcum; plus a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Gracie Arnett Marcum; and by his son, Donnie Ray Marcum Jr.
Donnie dedicated much of his life in service to his country and community. He served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, utilizing his skills as an accountant. After his military service, Donnie transitioned to civilian life and embarked on a distinguished career with the United States Postal Service.
During his tenure, Donnie served as a postal carrier in the city of London, where he developed cherished bonds with the community he served. His commitment to excellence led him to assume managerial responsibilities in Cincinnati, overseeing Express Mail operations, where he exhibited leadership and professionalism.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Donnie was a man of unwavering faith, finding solace and strength in his Pentecostal beliefs. He was an active member of Charity Tabernacle in Newport, KY, where he found community and spiritual nourishment.
Donnie's zest for life extended beyond his work and faith. He loved to travel and cherished the opportunity to explore new places. His travels provided him with countless memories to treasure.
However, Donnie's greatest source of joy was his family. He held them close to his heart and found immense happiness in their company. His love knew no bounds, and he was a pillar of support and guidance to those he held dear.
Among his beloved companions were his cherished feline friends, Kitty and Little Boy, whose presence brought him comfort and companionship throughout the years.
Donnie Ray Marcum leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication. His memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Funeral services for Donnie Ray Marcum will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Jerry Holland and Jerry M. Holland officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Church Cemetery in London, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 15, 2024 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
