Two Georgia men lead police on chase
Two Georgia men were arrested in the wee hours of Tuesday morning with a large amount of methamphetamine on Beech Creek.
Cedric Shropshire, 47, of Calhoun, Georgia, and Kendall Boynton, 30, of Dalton, Georgia, are lodged in the Clay County Detention Center.
Around 2 a.m., Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy Wes Brumley observed a white Toyota vehicle on Beech Creek Road.
“The vehicle gave a turn signal when it was not required to give one and nearly missed the turn at Beech Creek Road, almost traveling up Bert T. Combs Road,” Brumley said. “I pulled out behind the white vehicle and observed it recklessly going side to side.”
Brumley activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop for violations, and the vehicle continued to flee without trying to stop.
Shropshire, the driver, continued north on Beech Creek Road at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly, Brumley stated.
“I was able to observe inside the vehicle, and the driver was reaching and looking down as if he was attempting to hide or conceal something,” Brumley said. “We (Officer Derek Carr) continued the pursuit, and the passenger door came open several times.”
Boynton jumped out of the vehicle with a plastic bag into a ditch line. Officer Carr secured Boynton as Brumley continued pursuit.
The vehicle eventually went up a dead-end road where Shropshire attempted to flee on foot. After a brief chase, Brumley was able to secure the resisting Georgia man and take him into custody.
Officers recovered a large plastic bag believed to be methamphetamine.
Shropshire is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st (meth); resisting arrest; fleeing or evading police 2nd (on foot); fleeing or evading police 1st (motor vehicle); failure to give proper signal; reckless driving and careless driving.
Boynton is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st.
