Bomb threat evacuates courthouse, will reopen Friday morning
January 04, 2024
A bomb threat, similar to the one sent to the Kentucky Capital in Frankfort Wednesday, closed the Clay County Courthouse around mid-day Thursday.
The threat was sent via email, according to sheriff Patrick Robinson.
The sheriff and his deputies had the building evacuated while they searched for any suspicious packages. A briefcase was found in a public area, but was later identified as an employee's, according to the sheriff.
"As a precaution we evacuated the building and did a search," he said. "Due to the disruption, all court has been cancelled and the courthouse will remain closed for the remainder of the day."
The courthouse will reopen Friday morning.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
