Trial delayed in federal kidnapping case
The trial for two men accused of kidnapping and intimidating a federal witness has been delayed.
Kenneth Ray Grubb, 33, and Landon Wagers, 18, were set to answer charges on December 12th in federal court at London. The trial has now been rescheduled for January 30th.
Grubb and Landon Wagers, 18, were indicted by a federal grand jury in London on kidnapping and conspiracy to intimidate a witness. A third person, Brittany Hubbard, 28, was indicted two weeks ago for intimidating a witness and conspiracy to intimidate a witness.
According to the indictment, on or about August 5th in Clay County, Grubb and Wagers aided and abetted by each and others, did willfully kidnap, abduct, seize, and confine “A.H.” (initials) and hold him for the purpose of reward and assault, and did use a means, facility, and instrumentality of interstate commerce. The second charge accuses Grubb and Wagers, on or about September 16, in Laurel and Clay counties, they conspired together and with others to use intimidation, threats, or corrupt persuasion toward “A.A.” (initials) with the intent to influence, delay, or prevent her testimony before a federal grand jury.
On October 9th, Manchester City Police observed a vehicle speeding and attempted to make a traffic stop. Officer Derek Carr attempted to make the stop when the vehicle, driven by Landon Wagers, continued at a high rate of speed. Wagers failed to manuever a curve losing control and crashed into a tree. He faces additional charges of speeding; fleeing or evading police; reckless driving; no operator’s license; failure to produce insurance card and failure to wear seatbelts.
Grubb was taken into custody by the Manchester Police Department in early November without incident.
