Fentanyl arrest in Laurel County

Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Zach Allen along with Deputy Adam Napier and shift Sgt. Allen Turner arrested James Gregory, age 42, of London, on Wednesday afternoon July 30, 2025 at approximately 4 PM. The arrest occurred in a business parking lot off S. Stewart Rd. approximately 10 miles South of London after deputies were dispatched by London – Laurel County 911 Communication Ctr. to a complaint that a reported stolen vehicle – a 2011 Toyota Camry was parked in the business parking lot there. When deputies arrived at the scene they located the vehicle -a gold colored Toyota Camry and noted observing an individual exit the business and enter the vehicle sitting in the driver’s seat. Deputies initiated their emergency equipment conducting a traffic stop and investigation determining that the suspect was in possession of a reported stolen vehicle. The suspect stated he had bought the vehicle from an unknown subject for $500. Deputies also learned through investigation that this individual was wanted on an outstanding warrant. During the investigation deputies found the driver in possession of scales, clear plastic baggies, pipes with drug residue inside, and a baggie containing suspected fentanyl. The driver identified as James Gregory was charged with receiving stolen property $1000 or more but under $10,000; trafficking in a controlled substance – first offense – fentanyl. In addition, this subject was charged on a Whitley District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear for arraignment on charges of operating on suspended or revoked operator's license. This individual was lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
