CUB RUN, Ky. — A 5-year-old boy who went missing early Tuesday morning in Hart County was found deceased, Kentucky State Police confirmed.

Silas Chearer, of Cub Run, was reported missing after reportedly wandering away from his home. An IAN (Integrated Alert Notification) alert was issued to cellphones across the region at approximately 8:35 a.m., warning that the child was considered in possible danger. Silas was described as being autistic, which heightened concerns for his safety.

Just over 30 minutes later, at 9:08 a.m., a follow-up alert announced that Silas had been located. In a statement released shortly after 9:20 a.m., Kentucky State Police clarified that Silas had been found deceased.

“KSP grieves with this family and the community,” the agency said in the statement. “Our hearts are with all those affected by this tragedy.”

No additional details regarding the circumstances of Silas’s death have been released at this time. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as appropriate.
