Motorcyclist Arrested After Fleeing Checkpoint, Found with Multiple Drugs and Cash

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. — A traffic safety checkpoint led to a drug trafficking arrest Wednesday night after a Laurel County man attempted to flee from deputies and crashed his motorcycle near the Laurel-Clay County line.
Scott David Fowler, 60, of Good Branch Road in Lily, was taken into custody by Laurel County Sheriff’s Drug Interdiction Unit Deputy Justin Taylor on July 2 at approximately 9:19 p.m.
According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Fowler fled a checkpoint being conducted on Highway 472 in Laurel County. Deputies pursued the motorcycle east toward Clay County, where Fowler crashed on Portersburg Road, roughly 10 miles east of London.
After the wreck, deputies discovered that Fowler was in possession of suspected methamphetamine, hydrocodone tablets, Clonazepam tablets, suspected psychedelic mushrooms, and a large amount of U.S. currency. Drug paraphernalia was also recovered at the scene.
Fowler now faces multiple charges, including:
- Trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree, first offense (methamphetamine)
- Trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree, first offense (unspecified)
- Trafficking in a controlled substance, third-degree, first offense
- Prescription controlled substance not in a proper container (first offense)
- Possession of a controlled substance, second-degree (hallucinogen)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Following his arrest, Fowler was transported to and lodged in the Clay County Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation by Deputy Justin Taylor and the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
