James David Bowling

James David Bowling, affectionately known as J.D., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 81. J.D. is the son of James Bowling & Narcissus (Jones) Bowling, born on March 21, 1944, in Manchester, Kentucky. J.D. lived a life of service, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family and country.
J.D. proudly served in the United States military for 23 years, rising through the ranks to retire with honor as a Command Sergeant Major. His time in the service was marked by discipline, leadership, and a deep sense of responsibility, earning him numerous accolades and the respect of all who served alongside him.
Though he achieved much throughout his distinguished career, J.D. found his greatest joy in being a devoted father and grandfather. He was the proud father of seven children: Dakotah Bowling and wife Jessica Bowling, James Bowling II and wife Angela Bowling, Jamie Bowling and wife Merissa Bowling, Jessica Bowling, Aaron Overbey and wife Lindsey Overbey, Jay Bowling, and Kaleb Scholz and wife Olivia Scholz and many grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with his children and grandchildren-whether it was during holiday gatherings, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, or working together on his beloved ranch in Missouri.
J.D.'s enduring love for family was evident in everything he did. Nothing brought him more happiness than seeing his loved ones united and enjoying one another's company. He is remembered not only for his strength and service but for his warmth, laughter, and the quiet moments he shared with those he held dear.
At the time of his passing, J.D. was in a loving relationship with Mary Haas, whose companionship brought him much comfort and joy in his later years.
J.D. is preceded in death by his father James Bowling and mother Narcissus (Jones) Bowling. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and resilience that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel, 303 North 2nd Street, Hugo, Oklahoma.
Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel officiated by Pastor Micah Moore, and will be available to view live on the Mt. Olive Facebook page.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Restland Cemetery in Boswell, Oklahoma.
