Celebrating 50 Years of Tiger Football This Fall
June 19, 2025

MANCHESTER, Ky. — The 2025 season marks a major milestone for Clay County High School as the Tigers prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their football program—a tradition that began with junior varsity games in 1975 and saw its first varsity action in 1977.
Clay County Athletic Director Tommy Nicholson said the school is planning a series of events throughout the upcoming football season to honor the program’s rich history and those who helped build it.
“We want to recognize the players, coaches, and supporters who’ve made Clay County football what it is today,” Nicholson said. “This program has meant a lot to the community for five decades, and we want to celebrate that legacy the right way.”
The junior varsity program was launched in the fall of 1975, laying the foundation for the varsity team's debut in 1977. Since then, Tiger football has become a Friday night staple in Manchester, bringing generations of fans together at Tiger Stadium.
Nicholson said various recognition nights will be held during home games this fall, where past players, coaches, and teams will be welcomed back and introduced on the field.
“We’re inviting everyone who’s ever worn the black and gold to come back and be part of this celebration,” Nicholson added. “From the early days to our most recent graduates, every player is part of our story.”
The athletic department will be reaching out to alumni and former team members to participate in the season-long celebration. Additional details and dates for specific events will be released later this summer.
“We’re proud of our past and excited for our future,” Nicholson said. “It’s going to be a special season for Clay County football.”
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
