LEONVILLE, La. — A Louisiana special education teacher is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he brutally stabbed his 6-year-old stepson, a child who had previously survived brain cancer.

Patrick Greene, 37, of Leonville, was arrested early Sunday morning following a domestic disturbance at his home, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived around 6 a.m. and discovered the boy with severe stab wounds to the face, neck, and chest.

“They immediately found a young child on the floor bleeding severely from numerous lacerations,” said Maj. Mark LeBlanc, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

The boy, identified by family members as Korbin, was airlifted to a hospital in Baton Rouge, where he remains in critical condition. Officials say he has undergone at least two surgeries since the incident.

According to a Facebook group created to support the child, Korbin had previously undergone treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in 2022.

Authorities said Greene’s wife was also severely beaten during the altercation. Greene reportedly became combative with law enforcement and had to be physically restrained at the scene. In addition to the injured child, six other children were in the home during the incident. All were unharmed and are now in the care of other family members.

Greene faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, and resisting an officer. Investigators indicated that additional charges are expected as the case develops.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board confirmed that Greene is employed as a special education teacher at Sulphur High School. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a personnel investigation.

A judge has ordered Greene held without bond until a hearing scheduled for Thursday. Protective orders have been issued for the victim’s mother and the other children in the home.
