One Dead After Massive Fire, Explosions Rock Corbin Neighborhood
May 22, 2025

CORBIN, Ky. — A massive fire in Corbin has claimed one life and destroyed multiple structures, according to local authorities.
The blaze broke out early Thursday morning on Steele Street, just off 5th Street Road. The Corbin Police Department reported the incident in a Facebook post, confirming that loud explosions were heard across the area—including as far away as Moore Hill in neighboring Knox County.
Police say the homeowner was an avid gun enthusiast and had a substantial number of firearms stored inside the residence. The explosions are believed to have been caused by ammunition and other related materials igniting during the fire.
The flames completely engulfed the house, a tractor, and several vehicles in a garage located next to the home. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the intensity of the fire made the area unsafe for immediate entry.
The Whitley County Coroner’s Office has confirmed one fatality as a result of the fire. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and are working to determine the full extent of the damage. Additional updates are expected as more information becomes available.
This is a developing story.
