BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Birmingham family is reeling after a tragic incident on Easter Sunday ended in the death of a 27-year-old father during what was supposed to be a joyful gathering.
Police say Mickese James Bostic was intentionally struck and killed by a vehicle driven by the mother of his children during an Easter celebration and birthday party for his daughter. The incident occurred Sunday evening outside a residence in Birmingham, where responding officers found Bostic pinned between a vehicle and the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the woman, whose name has not yet been released pending formal charges, was taken into custody at the scene. According to police, she is the mother of Bostic’s three children, and investigators believe some of the children may have witnessed the fatal incident.
The tragedy reportedly followed a domestic dispute inside the home. Investigators say the suspect retrieved a firearm and discharged it inside the residence before the confrontation moved outside, culminating in the fatal act.
Bostic’s family is devastated by the loss, describing him as a devoted father and hardworking provider. He was known for his dedication to his family, including raising two of the suspect’s children as his own.
“You know, they used to say there’s only a few good men left? He was one of them,” said Bostic’s aunt, Brenda Frazier. “He did what he needed to do for his family. He never stopped working.”
Another aunt, Rosemary Adekpo, expressed disbelief and sorrow over the circumstances of his death. “It’s just not fair. He was a good man, and he didn’t deserve this. He’s truly going to be missed.”
Bostic had worked with Jefferson County for nearly a decade, including serving in the juvenile court system. A county spokesperson said Bostic began working there shortly after high school and was a valued employee.
“This is obviously an extremely difficult time for his family, friends, and colleagues,” the spokesperson said. “We are praying for all involved.”
Police say the suspect’s name and mugshot will be released once formal charges are filed. The investigation is ongoing.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
