Brevard County, FL — A Florida man is facing multiple charges after an altercation at a Subway restaurant allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation involving a knife.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, 45-year-old Edward Cocaine was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, burglary with assault or battery, and battery. Sheriff Wayne Ivey confirmed in a Facebook post that the man’s name is indeed Edward Cocaine.
The incident occurred when Cocaine and a friend stopped at a local Subway for lunch. Authorities say an argument erupted between Cocaine and the restaurant employees, allegedly over what he perceived as their “bad attitudes.”
Witnesses and surveillance footage indicate that Cocaine became increasingly agitated, eventually going behind the counter where he reportedly shoved an employee and grabbed a knife, making threatening gestures toward staff members.
Cocaine’s friend reportedly stepped in and was able to de-escalate the situation before anyone was injured. The two left the restaurant shortly afterward.
Cocaine later admitted to investigators that he was the individual seen on security footage and acknowledged that pulling out the knife "crossed the line."
Sheriff Ivey commented on the arrest with characteristic candor, saying, “He can now enjoy food in our 1-star dining facility that is freshly prepared each day by inmates… sounds just yummy!”
Cocaine was booked into the Brevard County Jail on Wednesday and released the following day on bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 6.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
