Robert "Bob" "Root" Howard

Robert "Bob" "Root" Howard, 97, of Chester, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Trinity West Hospital in Steubenville.
Bob was born on July 25, 1927, in Manchester, Kentucky, the son of the late David Lawrence "Pa" and Exie Belle "Ma" Wagers Howard.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Holl; sons, Robert Jeffery Howard and Robert David Howard; daughter, Robin Elaine Clutter; great-grandson, Joey Bailey; and sons-in-law, Thomas Bailey and Jerry Clutter; brothers, George Henry "Butt," Charlie Bentley "C.B.," Israel John "I.J.," Fred Marvin, Carl Reed "Skeets," Lindburg "Coon", David Lawrence Jr. "D.L."; sisters, Nettie Cleo Marcum "Nett," Mary Mae Marcum "Mae," Irene Castle Hutchison "Rene," Bernice Fae Howard, Mossie Dean Hanselman, and Roxie Ann Boggess and adopted brothers, Carl Marshal "Skipper" and Robert Allen "Bucky" and grandson-in-law, James Argabrite "Jim."
Bob was a proud World War II veteran who served in the United States Navy/ Air Force. He owned and operated Howards Transmission Services. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, flying model airplanes, and drag and dirt racing. He was also a great storyteller, and his family will miss him.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Susan Bailey of Chester; grandchildren, Marguerite "Peggy" Bailey, Tammy Lynn (Matthew) Wright, Patricia (Kenneth) Stull, Thomas N. (Kimberly Durst) Bailey II, Michelle Argabrite, Nicole Howard Milbauer, David Jason Howard and Jeremy L. Clutter; 18 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Pastor Kenneth Stull will celebrate Bob's life at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Food and fellowship will follow directly after the service at Elevate in Wellsville. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
