Former Clay man arrested after being fired at Chicken Festival

On 9/21/2023, Ofc. Hobie Daugherty arrested Melvin Lee Griffitts age 35, of London, Kentucky, formerly of Clay County.

Ofc. Daugherty received a complaint that a male subject had been fired from his position at the Chicken Festival and was intoxicated. Ofc. Daugherty located the male backing out of a parking lot and appeared to be intoxicated. Ofc. Daugherty noted it was immediately apparent Mr. Griffitts was manifestly under the influence of an unknown intoxicant. He had a slurred speech, lethargic, unsteady on his feet and was sweating profusely.

During the investigation, Ofc. Daugherty determined Melvin Griffitts was under the influence of narcotics and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

Assisting at the scene was Sgt. Drew Jackson and Cpl. Ben Webb.
