Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run on U.S. 25

London, Ky. – In less than eight hours, investigators with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred early Wednesday morning.

The incident took place around 4:22 a.m. on U.S. 25, approximately two miles south of London. Authorities report that a moped traveling southbound was struck from behind, leaving its driver critically injured. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Thomas Williams, 58, of Russell Springs, Ky.

Investigators quickly developed information leading them to a black Chevrolet Suburban with front-end damage, which matched the suspected vehicle. The SUV was found parked at a business near Lily.

Following the discovery, Tyler Taperek, 28, of London, was taken into custody and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with a Death. He has been lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by Detective Hunter Disney, with assistance from Sheriff John Root and other detectives from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
