Clay County Man Arrested for Burning Stolen Copper

MANCHESTER, Ky. — A Clay County man was arrested after authorities discovered him burning stolen copper wire and electric motors, according to Clay County Sheriff Patrick Robinson.

On March 28, 2025, Chief Deputy Clifton Jones responded to a 911 call regarding suspicious activity on Lucy Lane. Upon arrival, Jones found Randall Grubb, 53, of Manchester, burning copper wire and electric motors, which were later determined to have been stolen from various locations across the county.

Investigators also confirmed that the electric motors had been reported stolen from a local business. Grubb was found in possession of a large box of burned wire, along with cutters and other cutting tools.

Grubb was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Failure to Appear
  • Theft of Services ($10,000 or More)
  • Theft by Unlawful Taking/Disposition (All Others)
He was transported to the Clay County Detention Center, and the case remains under investigation.
