CCMS baseball kicks off season

(MANCHESTER, Ky.) – The CCMS Tiger Baseball team is off and running this season! Coach Brad Crawford and the boys began their season in Leslie County, losing a tough one 8-5. They followed that with an 8-4 home victory over Jackson County. 

The Tigers now set their sights on a Friday matchup on the road against Pineville, followed by a home matchup against Cumberland on Saturday, then back at it on the road against Knox Central on Monday, and Middlesboro on Tuesday. 

Leslie County 8 Clay County 5 – The Tigers dropped their season opener against Leslie County on the road. Bryson Hubbard led the Tigers with two hits in the loss. Silas Hyde and Bill McNamara each singled. Hyde also pitched two innings, striking out four Leslie County batters. He was relieved by Trey Crawford, who tossed two innings while striking out two, and Kaden Grubb who pitched one inning, striking out three. 

Clay County 8 Jackson County 4 – The Tigers nab a home victory over rival Jackson County, 8-4. Clay County scored early behind a Kyler Hughes RBI and never looked back. Hughes led the Tigers at the plate with a 2-2 effort, while Trey Crawford brought home three RBI’s and Kaden Grubb with two RBI. Grubb pitched a complete game effort, six innings with nine strikeouts. He is becoming a force on the mound for the Tigers.
