40 years of success! The Clay Historical Society
December 05, 2024
It’s been an eventful and successful year. The Clay Historical Society concludes its 40th Anniversary celebration on Thursday.
“In appreciation to our wonderful members, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, we’ll be hosting our annual membership meeting,” President Mike White said. “As we end our 40th Anniversary year we’d like to offer a special thank you by providing a holiday meal just for loyal members. Entertainment will begin at 11:30 so please join in the fun. Without your support we’d have no society to showcase. Forty years – 1984-2024…WOW! Thank you members!!!”
Society members have worked tirelessly on several projects this year in honor of the 40th anniversary.
The society premiered the book series “Untold Clay” a four-volume book series penned by author Gary Burns on some of the county’s unknown characters. The book series is now on sale at a special price just in time for Christmas!
A Walking History Tour of Courthouse Hill was a huge success in October and an encore event may be planned for the spring!
In July, the society hosted “A Blast from the Past” car show in downtown Manchester and refurbished numerous historical headstones throughout the county to name a few of their many projects.
They also partnered with the U.S. Forest Service Redbird Ranger District on the 100th year celebration of “The Clubhouse.”
If that wasn’t enough, the society partnered with the Clay Board of Education on creating Legends Hall-The Clay County Basketball Museum.
“It has been a tremendously busy and successful year,” White said. “We like to say that the mission of the historical society is to preserve and protect the rich history of our county. We have attempted to do that with several projects, with the basketball museum being the latest.”
Society members will be receiving the Fall & Winter issue of the Clay County Ancestral News in their mailboxes in coming days.
