The Simple Things
The older I get, the more I appreciate the simple things in life. In my 20s, I thought I always needed an adventure. A trip. A hype. It’s a reason to make me happy. But these days, I know those things are only temporary. I find so much more value in the minor things I do every day.
1. That first cup of coffee in the morning. It’s unexplainable. As I sit in the dark, there is peace with no voices, except maybe the TV. And I enjoy every drop.
2. The drive to work. Nobody loves getting up and going to work. But I enjoy that drive, seeing the early sunrise and the beauty in God’s creation.
3. Friendships. Oh, how I enjoy friendships. I am intentional when it comes to keeping friendships together. Maybe a lunch date or dinner. Or a text to check up on someone. Friendships mean so much to me.
4. A quiet lunch at the park or wherever. I like to read and watch. And I want to take pictures too. My lunch is my me time.
5. My children and grandchildren are such a blessing. I look forward to them every day. A chat, a picture, a visit. It’s all that I could ever dream of.
6. Time with my husband. We like spending our evenings together, maybe driving or with our animals, visiting with family, and maybe watching a series together. We love our time together.
7. My reading time. I like to study about what I write. I spend time reading and encouraging myself with things in my downtime. I love to be knowledgeable about the things I write.
8. Nature. I flipping love nature. I do, crazy squirrels and all: the leaves, the rain, the snow, and the sun. I see beauty in all of it, and I take time to enjoy it.
9. A good home-cooked meal. My favorite thing is coming home and enjoying something that isn’t fast food. It takes me back to my childhood and eating at the table.
10. Baking. Yep, you know it already. I love to bake. It’s therapy for me; I don’t pick anything too challenging, though, cause they may not be the therapy that I need. But a little homemade cake or some cookies will do me just right.
I hope you enjoyed my list of simple things; now, write your own.
